The Conversation I'll Never Forget

The Conversation I'll Never Forget

There are some conversations you never forget.

Not because they were dramatic.

But because they remind you why you chose the work you do.

Years ago, after one of my workshops, a young woman waited until everyone had left before quietly asking me,

"Susan... do you see people privately?"

A few weeks later, we met in her hometown.

She was married with two very young children, working alongside her husband as a farmhand, trying to keep everything and everyone together.

As she shared her story, one thing became painfully clear.

Somewhere between taking care of everyone else, she had stopped believing her own life mattered.

She couldn't remember the last time she'd asked herself what she wanted.

Every day looked the same.

Take care of the children.

Work.

Come home.

Go to bed exhausted.

Wake up and do it all again.

Little by little, she'd stopped imagining that life could be any different.

She had talked herself into believing this was simply the life she was meant to live.

Over the following year, we worked together.

People often think coaching is about giving someone confidence.

I don't believe that.

I believe it's about creating a space where someone can hear themselves again.

So I asked her one simple question.

"What would you love?"

At first she couldn't answer.

She had spent so many years taking care of everyone else that she'd forgotten she was allowed to ask herself that question.

Slowly she began imagining a different future.

She accepted a position as a shadow teacher at a local school, allowing her to earn an income while remaining close to her children.

At night she studied to become a financial adviser.

She met people who encouraged her.

She won awards.

She travelled.

Today she owns a beautiful salon where she helps women feel good about themselves.

People often think her career changed her life.

I don't.

I believe her life began changing the day she stopped believing the story she'd been living was the only story she could live.

This week I was reminded of something I never want to forget.

What we do matters.

The conversations we have.

The questions we ask.

The encouragement we offer.

Sometimes one conversation changes the direction of a life.

So let me leave you with one question.

Have you been telling yourself a story for so long that you've started believing it's the only story you can live?

What if your next chapter begins the moment you become curious enough to question that story?

If you'd like to continue that journey with me, I'd love to welcome you into the Self-Trust Reset, beginning July 28, 2026.

I’d love to have you join us.
